A mostly Italian Restaurant in Washington DC

simple cooking with an Italian Sensibility, featuring local produce, artisan products, sustainable seafood & humanely raised meats

  • We’ve eaten at Dino’s Grotto several times and are never disappointed. The menu varies with the season and what is fresh, which invites return visits. The wine list is all-Italian and shows care and a love for the unusual and lesser-known. It is also reasonably-priced with many good choices under $40.

    Open Table DIner

  • Dean Gold stood by our table to talk spices. Not in a coordinated press bit. Not to brag. The chef and owner of Dino’s Grotto in Shaw wanted to share his vast knowledge of traditional Italian fare, spices from the early Roman Empire, and ancient chef and gourmand, Apicius.

    Brandon Weight, Brightest Young Things

  • The Virginia skirt steak, succulent from its marinade of olive oil and rosemary, is accompanied by a racy anchovy salsa verde.
